0% on Balance transfers offers have a period where your new credit card company doesn't charge interest on the balance you transfer onto your new card. This 0% "offer period" is generally between 6 to 9 months but varies from card to card.

0% on purchases offers have a period where your new credit card company doesn't charge interest on purchases you make during the "offer period". This needs to be used wisley as once the offer period is over interest is normally payable at a higher rate unless you transfer your balance to another company.
